Why is Trump so interested in buying Greenland, even if by force?
Donald Trump Jr. arrived in Greenland on Tuesday. His father, the newly elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, recently expressed strong interest in purchasing the island, despite Greenland's authorities firmly stating that it is not for sale.
Trump Jr. described his visit to Greenland as "a bit of a fun trip." Speaking to CNN, he said, "As someone who enjoys spending time outdoors, I’m thrilled to have stopped in Greenland this week."
However, Trump Jr.'s visit has fueled speculation about what his father's plans for the world's largest island might be.
In November, shortly after winning the U.S. presidential election, Donald Trump reiterated his previous statement made during his first term about establishing ownership over Greenland. He emphasized that owning Greenland is "very important."

Yesterday, during a press conference at Trump's Florida resort, he was asked whether he could assure the world that no military or economic force would be used in his attempts to gain control of the Panama Canal and Greenland.
Without hesitation, Trump responded, "No, I cannot give you any assurances regarding either of those. But I can say that both of them (the Panama Canal and Greenland) are necessary for our (U.S.) economic security."
Regarding Trump's claim that owning Greenland is "essential" for U.S. security, experts suggest that the newly elected president may have other motives. They point out that Greenland is a treasure trove of natural resources, including some rare earth metals. With the ongoing climate change and rising temperatures causing ice to melt, extracting these resources could become much easier in the future.
